Overview

This site offers you a wide variety of tools for an in-class examination of sustainable transportation. Parallel to this educator's section is a student area with a number of resources for students. One is an heroic quest time-travel game, the "Quantum Energy Adventure" used to set the stage for a unit on sustainable transportation, the environment or future prairie living. Another is Action Tools for Change which will give students a framework for planning and implementing public awareness and community programs to do with transportation issues. Finally, there is a Brain-o-Meter section of interesting and little known information applicable to sustainable transportation.

This educator's section offers a number of tools to assist you, the educator, with introducing your students to ideas and concepts about sustainable transportation. There is a number of lesson plans which not only examine content but also address processes. These processes include Concept Mapping and Futures Wheels.

In addition to the lesson plans, two Case Studies showcasing sustainable transportation facilities are included. These are backed up with two Educational Briefs discussing the underlying science that is showcased in the case studies. These briefs and studies are not all inclusive and allow ample opportunity for the students to explore individual interests within the larger framework.

The Educators Guide to the Game (Quantum Energy Adventure) shows how the site can be used within a classroom setting and gives you suggestions on how to integrate the game into the sustainable transportation instruction.

Action Challenges help you with some of the concepts that you may want to use in introducing sustainable transportation and the "Did You Know" sources gives references to the Brain-O-Meter quiz answers.

The evaluation form allows you to tell us what you like and do not like about the site and the programs. We invite suggestions on how to improve the quality, look, usefulness or other aspects of the program.

The site encourages classrooms to develop and implement projects within the community to increase awareness of some of the transportation issues. If, during the use of this unit, you and your students develop such a program the opportunity to register this program with the site is available. In this way, other classrooms may be inspired to become active promoters of sustainable transportation too. In addition, once your class completes the unit to your satisfaction, you can download a Certificate of Completion.
